About Us
Rusty Frangipani sets out to recover the rightful meaning of awe-full by making disciples of disciplines.
Today, we only want awe-some because awe-full is, well, awful.
Awe-some adds some sparks to our lives without the need for us to catch fire. Awe-some is like Christmas lights that shimmer in the night, but never bright enough to illuminate. Awe-some is that little bit of salt that seasons our days, making life a little tastier and less bland, minus the antiseptic sting. Awe-some is utilitarian. Awe-some serves us. We get to be self-referential.
Conversely, awe-full demands reverence, perhaps even inspires fear. Awe-full overwhelms, humbles, bends our knees and us. Awe-full calls us to burn for that which is transcendent, to banish all iniquities that are hiding in darkness, to endure the sting from salt on wound so that we may heal. Awe is transcendental as are Truth, Goodness, and Beauty.
However, we do not want awe in its fullness because we do not want to fear but be feared instead. Consequently, we suppress everything and everyone to be smaller than us, thus rendering ourselves with no awe, no purpose, no meaning. All that is left is consumption.
Awe-full is the opposite - submission to the transcendent to be in service of the transcendent; a discarded wisdom from old, but we like old.

In fact, that is why we named ourselves rusty because rust signals being weathered and having stood the test of time; where the elements are embraced and not repelled.

As for the frangipani, it just happens to be nelson’s favourite tree that holds fond memories of his childhood. So much so that he bought one for his home when he found space for it.
How else are we recovering awe:
RF inkling draws its inspiration from the legendary gathering of minds known as the Inklings, a group of writers including the literary giants J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis. Just as these luminaries met to discuss literature, philosophy, and theology, RF inkling aims to create a similar space in the digital realm—a place for exploration, contemplation, and the gentle unfolding of thoughts.
The term "inkling" itself is beautifully apt for our purpose here. It represents those fleeting moments of insight, those whispers of understanding that we chase as writers and thinkers. An inkling is not a certainty, but a hint, a suspicion, a glimmer of something profound just beyond our grasp. It's in this spirit that I approach the topics we'll explore together on this blog.
Here at RF Inkling, we embark on a quest to recover the timeless virtues of Truth, Goodness, and Beauty. In a world often clouded by cynicism and confusion, we seek to illuminate these eternal principles through thoughtful discussion, creative exploration, and open-minded inquiry. Our journey may not always lead to definitive answers, but it will certainly spark curiosity, foster reflection, and hopefully, inspire a deeper appreciation for the complexities of our world.
As we delve into various subjects—be they philosophical musings, literary analyses, or observations on contemporary culture—we'll approach them with the humility of knowing that our understanding is never complete. Like the original Inklings, we'll wrestle with big ideas, challenge assumptions, and celebrate the power of imagination.
So, dear reader, I invite you to join me on this intellectual adventure. Whether you're a seasoned philosopher, a curious student, or simply someone who enjoys pondering life's big questions, there's a place for you here. Let's explore together, share our inklings, and see where this journey of discovery takes us.
Welcome to RF Inkling—where every post is a step toward uncovering Truth, Goodness, and Beauty.
